Types of Acne
There are two types of acne which are non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne. Non inflamed skin blemishes are known as comedones. Whitehead and blackhead are the types of non-inflammatory acne.
Whitehead is mild form and also known as closed comedo. Whitehead is primary stage of acne and occurs when pore is blocked with trapped sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells.
Blackhead is known as open comedo. Blackheads occur when pore is partially blocked and allowing trapped sebum and bacteria slowly drain to the surface. Black color is not due to dirt but because of melanin. Sebum contains melanin which is the pigment and gives color to the skin. Melanin reacts with oxygen and produces a black color.
Inflammatory acne is more serious and painful type of acne. This type of acne caused due to hormonal changes during puberty and pregnancy. In this case, hair follicle blocked with oil and dead skin cells, which develops infection and inflammation. Papules, Pustules, Cystic and Nodular are type of inflammatory acne.
Papules are small red bump with no head. It occurs when hair follicle breaks. Pustules look like red circle with yellow or white center. Pustules are also known as pimple or zits.
